“PARAMORE,” the acclaimed new album from Fueled By Ramen recording group Paramore, has exploded to the top of the SoundScan/Billboard 200 after its first week in release. The album’s phenomenal success represents the GRAMMY® Award-nominated band’s first #1 album to date, with sales of 106,422 and counting.
In addition, “PARAMORE” is racking up #1 debuts around the globe, marking the Nashville based band’s second consecutive chart-topper – following 2009’s “brand new eyes” – in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, as well as its first to reach the top position in such countries as Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico.
Rdio, the exclusive streaming partner for “PARAMORE” its first week of release, initiated over 1.25 million streams marking Rdio’s biggest first week debut since its inception in 2010. Rdio also features two bonus tracks “Escape Route” and “Native Tongue” from the band that were created during the recording of the new album. Both are new, previously unreleased songs that are available exclusively to Rdio listeners. In support of the featured content, Rdio created two dynamic TV spots that include the band along with material from their new album. These spots aired during episodes of NBC’s The Voice and a high profile TV appearance from Paramore on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, continuing through TBS’ Conan (April 30) as well as during additional programming on networks including the CW, MTV, and VH1.
“Still Into You,” the latest single from “PARAMORE,” is currently impacting multi-format radio outlets nationwide, while its companion video – directed by Isaac Rentz (Tegan & Sara, Cage The Elephant, Skylar Grey Feat. Eminem) – has just been added into rotation at MTV, FUSE, mtvU and MTV Hits. In addition, “Still Into You” has quickly drawn more than 4 million views and counting at Paramore’s official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OblL026SvD4.
Paramore –singer Hayley Williams, bassist Jeremy Davis, and guitarist Taylor York – have been ever-present on television in recent weeks. Highlights include MTV’s full-length special, Paramore: Live from the MTV Newsroom: Paramore, performances of “Still Into You” on a recent visits to ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, BBC’s The Graham Norton Show, VH1’s Big Morning Buzz Live with Carrie Keagan, and an all-day FUSE takeover that featured the in-depth interview, Paramore: On The Record with Fuse. Paramore will light up TBS’ Conan, set for April 30th (check local listings).
Saturday, April 20th will see Paramore commemorating Record Store Day 2013 with a special RSD13 release, “THE HOLIDAY SESSIONS,” as well as an intimate acoustic performance at Nashville’s renowned Grimey’s New & Preloved Music (see www.paramore.net/blog/record-store-day-2013-1961021 for details). A vinyl 7’’ die-cut in the shape of a hibiscus flower, “THE HOLIDAY SESSIONS” features the three musical interludes found on “PARAMORE” and will be limited to 700 total copies, 300 of which will be available at the Grimey’s in-store. All remaining copies will be available – for a very limited time – at Paramore’s official webstore, https://store.paramore.net.
Paramore will then celebrate the success of “PARAMORE” with a world tour, kicking off April 25th with a long sold out show at Houston’s Bayou Music Theatre and then travelling North America through mid-May (see attached itinerary). Always a festival favorite, the band will also be among the top stars appearing at this year’s Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans as well as a range of upcoming radio-sponsored festivals, including 101.1 The Edge’s annual Edgefest in Dallas on April 27th and Radio 104.5’s WRFF Festival in Philadelphia on May 12th.
In June, Paramore will cross the Atlantic for mainstage performances at an array of European extravaganzas, including such famous festivals as Moscow’s Park Live, the Netherlands’ Pinkpop, and Germany’s legendary Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park. From there, the band will head to South America for a much anticipated headline tour, with stops set for arenas in Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. Further tour and ticket information can be found at www.paramore.net/tour.
Paramore’s first all-new release in more than three years, “PARAMORE” has been greeted with the best reviews of the band’s already acclaimed career. Nylon – starring Hayley Williams on the cover of their April anniversary issue – praised the album as “Paramore’s best record yet,” a sentiment echoed by Alternative Press, whose May issue features the full line-up on its cover. “Grandiose without being pompous, spunky without coming off immature,” declared the AP feature story, “the album seamlessly jumps from sultry electro-rock (‘Fast In My Car’) to new jack swing (‘Ain’t It Fun’) to ukulele pop (the three-part interlude series of ‘Moving On,’ ‘Holiday,” and ‘I’m Not Angry Anymore’)… and that doesn’t even begin to address the album’s epic closing track, ‘Future,’ that you just have to hear to believe.” In addition, Alternative Press awarded “PARAMORE” its full five stars in a rave review declaring the band as “…one of the finest rock bands in America.”
Rolling Stone cheered the album’s “elasticity,” while the New York Times praised the band for “(pushing) beyond pop-punk without abandoning momentum or the big, catchy chorus…Ms. Williams’ vocals have taken on subtleties…and an emerging sense of humor.” “Don’t be scared off by the new sound,” noted Elle, “fiery lead singer Hayley Williams tackles intra-band drama and big loves with her familiarly fearless belt.” USA Today awarded “PARAMORE” four stars, praising its “supersized” sound. “PARAMORE” “sounds nothing like a band hedging its bets,” wrote Spin. “These 17 tracks encompass ukulele-based sauciness, twitchy new wave romance, made-over alt-rock snarl, new-jack-swinging gospel-funk, Arcade Fire-style rafter-raising, even Goth-y atmospherics.”
