New Music To Be Released In 2017
Multi-Grammy winning singer/songwriter Kelly Clarkson has signed a long-term, worldwide deal with Atlantic Records it was announced today. Clarkson, who has sold over 25 million albums and 36 million singles worldwide since the launch of her recording career in 2002, is slated to release her first album for Atlantic in 2017. The album will draw from the inspiration of soul and R&B as the foundation of her endearing lyrics and powerhouse vocals.
Every day this week, Clarkson has been teasing her announcement by performing a classic song from the Atlantic catalog on Facebook Live, including Otis Redding’s “These Arms of Mine,” Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is,” Aretha Franklin’s “Giving Him Something He Can Feel,” and Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy”.
“We are thrilled to welcome Kelly Clarkson into the Atlantic family,” said Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman and Atlantic Chairman/COO Julie Greenwald. “She is one of the greatest artists of our generation, a musical icon with an extraordinary, soul-inspired voice that has captivated millions of fans around the world. We are honored to be partnering with Kelly as she embarks on this exciting new phase of her record-breaking career.”
“After winning American Idol there was an arranged marriage that occurred that sometimes worked out and sometimes resulted in the hardest experiences of my life,” commented Kelly Clarkson. “As an artist, American Idol gave me something that was incredible, an audience and a platform before even releasing music. Although I am extremely thankful to the amazing people that I’ve had the chance to work with, I cannot describe the excitement of working with Julie Greenwald, Craig Kallman, and their team at Atlantic Records. The loyalty, innovation, and creativeness that Atlantic Records has been consistently bringing to the music industry is incredibly exciting for any artist to be a part of! We have already started creating a record that I have been wanting to make since I was a little girl, and a record that fans have been asking me to make for years. Here’s to the future!”
It was also announced today that as a gift for her fans, not only will Clarkson release a live version video for “Tightrope” but she has put four fan-requested cover songs on her website (www.kellyclarksonlive.com) that are now available for instant download. Included are her unique takes on Coldplay’s “Fix You,” Radiohead’s “Creep,” Etta James’s “I’d Rather Go Blind,” and India Arie’s “Ready For Love.” In addition, moving forward fans can visit www.kellyclarksonlive.com on the last Friday of every month to have the opportunity to receive new and exclusive content.
Clarkson rose to fame as the winner of the first season of American Idol, followed by the release of her debut single, “A Moment Like This,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became the best-selling single of 2002 in the U.S. With the release of her multi-platinum, No. 1 debut album, Thankful, in 2003, she established herself as a bona fide superstar, going on to release a string of smash studio albums, including the RIAA 6X platinum Breakaway (2004), My December (2007), All I Ever Wanted (2009), Stronger (2011), Wrapped In Red (2013), and last year’s Piece By Piece, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Clarkson has scored 17 multi-platinum, platinum, and/or gold singles across the globe, among them “Miss Independent,” “Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” “Because Of You,” “Don’t You Wanna Stay” (with Jason Aldean), “My Life Would Suck Without You” (which holds the record for the biggest leap in a single week on the Billboard Hot 100, from No. 97 to No. 1), “Mr. Know It All,” “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” and “Heartbeat Song.”
In addition to her three Grammy Awards, Clarkson has won twelve Billboard Music Awards, four American Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music Awards, and two American Country Awards. She is the only artist to date to win the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album more than once. Alongside her musical career, Clarkson has ventured into television and film, including playing musical legend Brenda Lee on the NBC-TV series American Dreams. This fall, Clarkson will make her debut as an author with the publication of her children’s picture book, River Rose And The Magical Lullaby.
