Today the multi award-winning breakthrough artist Dua Lipa, signed to Warner Bros. Records UK, celebrated her first number one single with ‘New Rules’ in the UK as well as in Ireland. Dua is the first solo female to reach the number one spot in the UK since Adele, back in October 2015. Her self-titled album is also the biggest debut record released by a British female artist this year.
The ‘New Rules’ video, released on 7th July and directed by Henry Scholfield, got the attention of her legions of fans and hundreds have now created their own versions of the video.
Phil Christie, President, Warner Bros. Records UK, said: “Dua’s talent has never been in any doubt. A number one single at this stage in the campaign is a hugely significant milestone on the road to her becoming a global pop star. It’s the result of three years of hard work and creativity from Dua, Ben and the team at Tap Management, and the whole of WB Records.”
‘New Rules’ is climbing charts around the world, including the US where it is performing well on the Billboard Hot 100 and receiving massive support on streaming platforms. Dua will also be performing on tour with Bruno Mars at gigs across America, Australia and New Zealand later this year.
Dua Lipa signed with Warner Bros. Records UK in 2014 and she has already enjoyed some impressive success. Her early single ‘Be The One’ was a hit across Europe, going to number one in three countries as well as charting in the top 10 in 11 other territories. In February 2017 she had three songs in the top 15 of the UK singles chart with ‘Be The One’ plus features on Sean Paul’s ‘No Lie’ and Martin Garrix’s ‘Scared To Be Lonely’.
Her debut album, titled ‘Dua Lipa’, was released on 2nd June 2017 and went straight in at number five to become the biggest selling week one female solo debut in the UK this year. It is currently spending its third week in the top 10 in the UK album chart.
Dua has also picked up several awards. She won the European Border Breakers Award, Public Choice Award and Best Newcomer of the Year at the most recent Eurosonic Noorderslag awards. She’s also been named NME’s 2017 Best New Artist and Glamour’s Next Breakthrough Artist.
