ADA to Provide Distribution Services for Portland-Based Music Company
Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA), the independent music distribution arm of Warner Music Group, today announced a partnership with independent record label Tender Loving Empire. Based in Portland, Oregon, the company is home to Typhoon, Y La Bamba, Loch Lomond, Radiation City, Finn Riggins, and Boy Eats Drum Machine, among others. ADA will contribute its digital & physical distribution services to releases from the label’s roster of artists.
In making the announcement, David Orleans, President, ADA, said “With an impressively eclectic roster of groundbreaking artists, Tender Loving Empire is a major force in the vibrant Portland music scene. Signing this company is a great example of our aggressive pursuit of new partners, and our determination to provide extraordinary services to the best of the independent community.”
Jared Mees, Founder of Tender Loving Empire, added, “We are very excited about our new relationship with ADA. They’ve helped tons of our favorite indie artists and labels over the years, and we look forward to having them on our team, as well. We feel this partnership is an important step on behalf of the careers of our artists, as well as the future success of Tender loving Empire.”
Tender Loving Empire recently signed art-pop trio BRAINSTORM—whose sophomore full-length Heat Waves comes out this fall—and is also set to release the fifth installment of its popular compilation, Friends and Friends of Friends Volume 5, on November 20th. Beyond a label, Tender Loving Empire also serves as a retail consignment shop, and screen-printing studio focused on supporting handmade art and music while fostering community exchange.
Having achieved 3.43% and 3.64% overall album market shares in Q1 and Q2, respectively, ADA’s overall album market share grew to 4.62% in Q3. According to SoundScan data for the week ending October 14th, ADA’s weekly market share was 5.70%. Contributing to its success are a number of ADA releases which can currently be found climbing the Billboard 200 chart, including the latest albums from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis—which is currently No. 2—The Lumineers, Deadmau5, Acacia Strain, The xx, Converge, Bad Books, Beth Orton, Cat Power, and Gungor.
In June of 2012, ADA expanded its services to the independent music community by officially joining forces with Independent Label Group (ILG), adding the company’s resources and expertise in radio promotion, publicity and marketing to ADA’s current offering. Since that time, ADA has begun aggressively pursuing a range of new deals, including recent signings with Blue Sky Riders—the new band featuring legends Kenny Loggins, Georgia Middleman, and Gary Burr—and hip-hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
